Woven across Europe, the European Action Coalition for the Right to Housing and to the City (EAC) is the beating heart of a continent-wide, grassroots housing movement that refuses to accept profit-driven displacement as inevitable. Functioning as a decentralised federation of dozens of local collectives, from the London Renters Union and Spain’s Plataforma de Afectadas por la Hipoteca to Cluj-Napoca’s Social Housing NOW! and the Warsaw Tenants Association, the EAC coordinates militant, cross-border campaigns that have mobilised over 100 actions annually during its flagship Housing Action Days. The organisation works in a context of compounded crisis: inflation, war, and austerity have stretched local groups to breaking point, making international solidarity not a luxury but a strategic necessity against a globalised financial system that treats homes as assets. The EAC’s response is to build bridges between housing struggles and climate justice, feminist, and migrant movements, recognising that evictions, gentrification, and the climate emergency are intertwined symptoms of the same extractive logic. With a small administrative team facilitating two general assemblies per year and a rotating, consensus-based decision-making structure designed to counter Western European dominance, the EAC produces militant knowledge and campaigns that link local resistance to a shared, border-defying political project.
The Guerrilla Grant
Our funding will be deployed not for one-off projects, but as a vital injection into the EAC’s core organising infrastructure, enabling its small team to convene two pivotal in-person gatherings in 2026: a spring meeting of around 45 activists and a larger autumn assembly of 150 participants. These are not mere talking shops, they are the workshops where shared campaign strategies for the 2027 Housing Action Days and anti-MIPIM mobilisations are forged, and where working groups physically collaborate across national lines. The funding also supports the research, writing, and distribution of a groundbreaking booklet on the intersection of housing and climate struggles, a resource designed to circulate tactical knowledge across movements and territories. Beyond the metrics: 200 attendees, 100+ actions, and a booklet reaching thousands, the true impact of this grant is its role in sustaining an internationalist, anti-capitalist infrastructure at a moment when grassroots organising is increasingly precarious. By covering travel and accommodation so that cash-strapped collectives from the Global South and Eastern Europe can participate, the grant ensures that the EAC remains a genuinely inclusive coalition, where solidarity is not abstract but tangible, and where the fight for a roof over every head is waged as a collective, cross-border struggle.
