At the heart of Western culture are hero narratives of quest and overcoming obstacles. The mythologist Joseph Campbell showed us how the myth of the hero works, and it now forms the basis of most screenwriting guides. We are surrounded by hero stories. But is the hero myth helpful for our activism? What does feminist and ecological thinking have to say about it? Are there other narratives in which we can root our changemaking work?
